Job Qualifications:

Job Duties:

  • Hires, orients and trains new Bus Drivers and Monitors
  • Handles emergent supervision needs, including accidents.
  • Ensures compliance with all Personnel Policies, including Head Start and Early Head Start Policies and Procedures.
  • Substitutes for absent Bus Drivers when necessary.
  • Monitors all components of the transportation department, including bus driver training, substitute assignments, route monitoring, bus maintenance, program vehicle maintenance bus and route inspections, parent/child bus orientation.
  • Monitors weather, road conditions and works in partnership with the Program Director in making inclement weather cancelations.
  • Ensures that all bus drivers and monitors remain current on all licensing requirements.
  • Creates and updates policies, procedures and forms in the transportation department.
  • Facilitates regular Bus Driver/Monitor Team meetings.

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
  • Three years of experience in the field of transportation, including at least one year supervising
  • Early childhood experience preferred

Certificates/Licenses & Registrations:

  • Possess and maintain a current, valid Class B Commercial Driver's License with school bus and passenger endorsements to drive school bus in VA
  • Possess and maintain a current Medical Examiner's Certificate
  • Registration with the Child Care Division's Central Background Registry
  • Valid Driver's License with good driving record
  • Ability to obtain First Aid/CPR certification
  • Ability to obtain Food Handler certification
  • Ability to successfully complete required state and federal background checks, including drug screen

Other Qualifications:

  • Proficient in the use of computers and related information technologies
  • Ability to work occasional evenings, early mornings and weekends as necessary.
