The Children's Center Head Start/Early Head Start is a federally funded program that provides no cost services to qualifying families who reside in the community. Comprehensive services are provided to pregnant women and their partners and children from birth to 5. Child development, health and family services are provided through a variety of program options designed to meet the needs of low-income and at risk families.

This position is responsible for providing quality, comprehensive child development services to preschool children and their families; and encouraging parental involvement in educational planning, goal setting and center activities. Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. Maintains classroom equipment, work areas, student files/records (e.g. instructional materials, meal counts, dental/health screenings, cleaning work areas/playground, observations, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring availability of items, providing reliable information and/or ensuring a safe and sanitary environment. Responds to inquires from a variety of sources for the purpose of resolving issues providing information and/or referrals. Assists in organizing indoor/outdoor, quiet/active activities appropriate to age group of the purpose of actively participating in the learning activities with children. Helps teacher instruct children and parents (e.g. nutrition, self care, social, motor skills, language skills, etc.) for the purpose of optimizing development of each child and helping to enhance parenting skills. Implements academic, behavior, family events, health and nutrition plans (e.g. literacy activities, stories, songs, math/science activities, art, etc.) for the purpose of achieving program objectives. Helps to carry out small group activities for the purpose of providing classroom activities and routines that support individual/group needs and/or delivering services in compliance with established guidelines. Monitors students in a variety of educational settings (e.g. classroom, playground, field trips, nap times, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. Models conversation, manners, cleanup activities, listening, etc. for the purpose of demonstrating appropriate social behavior. Acts as a support and resource person for families for the purpose of assisting the Head Start Teacher in case managing specific needs with families, advocating for parents and encouraging parent involvement in the program. Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution. Attends meetings and/or workshops (e.g. in service, staffing, training, parent meetings, interdisciplinary team, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions and/or maintaining their professional knowledge. Cleans facilities, equipment and playground area (e.g. laundering, organizing sanitizing, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring a safe and sanitary environment. Set-ups and serves meals and snacks for the purpose of meeting nutritional needs of students. Assists children with hand washing, tooth brushing, diapering, etc. for the purpose of modeling appropriate personal hygiene. Assists in maintaining a variety of documents, files and records (e.g. student records, observations, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. Participates as a team member in interdisciplinary planning for children and families for the purpose of conveying and/or receiving information related to program plan. Performs functions of Head Start Teacher for the purpose of ensuring adequate coverage in their absence.

Job Qualifications:
Must have an AA in ECE or be enrolled in a program leading to an associate or bachelor’s degree; or enrolled in a child development associate credential program to be completed with two years. Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or related field; preferred. Extensive experience in service for children and families. Minimum of two years experience working with Preschool aged children, including supervising staff. Must have training and experience in areas that include: Theories and principles of child growth and development; Early Childhood Education; Family support (Reference Head Start Performance Standards 1304.52(d)(1)). Demonstrated ability in public speaking, written and oral communication, and interpersonal relation; and (Reference Head Start Performance Standards 1304.52(b)(4)). Must be familiar with all backgrounds of families in the program ((Reference Head Start Performance Standards 1304.52). Must have reliable transportation. Must obtain CPR/First Aid Certification, Food Handlers Certification, Medication Administer Training and HIPPA Training. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. The person selected for this position must be professionally prepared as a teacher of young children especially in the field of early childhood education, development or preschool special education. Must relate well to both children and adults. This person must have the personality and ability to provide leadership and stability for program continuity. Must utilize The Children’s Center curriculum. Must be able to perform basic computer applications utilizing Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access) and Time Clock software. Must be able to communicate through company email using Outlook.

To receive full payrate for a credentialed teacher, you must be credentialed with the following - Associates or higher in ECE, ECE Infant/Toddler Certificate or Infant/Toddler CDA.  If not credentialed, you must be willing to enroll in college classes to become credentialed.  Scholarships available, for those who apply, to cover required college class tuition.
