This position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the volunteer program associated with the Children’s Center’s Board of Directors, Policy Council and Programs.




  • Organizes, coordinates, and manages the recruitment of volunteers for the Agency.
  • Works with social, civic, and local organizations to develop partnerships where appropriate to develop and/or utilize volunteers.
  • Develops and implements training programs for all volunteers.
  • Works with HR to maintain updated records on all volunteers.
  • Sets up and attends volunteer meetings, and reports to staff as needed.
  • Recommends and develops on-going volunteer utilization.
  • Develops and implements a volunteer recognition program.
  • Assists with fundraising activities.
  • Contributing to annual reports and newsletters.
  • Contributes to website and social media presence.
  • Promotes, coordinates and facilitates speaking engagement with civic groups for volunteerism.
  • Represents the agency with other groups and organizations.
  • Develops and strengthens partnerships with local businesses and agencies.
  • Coordinates volunteer projects, and generates in-kind for program match.
  • Performs related duties.




  • Knowledge of public relations and volunteer principles.


  • Skill in interpersonal relations, teamwork, and in dealing with the public.


  • Skill in oral and written communication, including presentations and publications.


  • Skill in time management, problem solving and decision making.


  • Knowledge of computers and job related software programs.


  • Knowledge of website and social media principles.


  • Knowledge of agency budget and fiscal procedures.


  • Skill in gathering data and preparing reports.


  • Knowledge of agency policies and procedures.





  • The Head Start Director assigns work in terms of very general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures and the nature and propriety of the final results.




  • Guidelines include grant requirements and Children's Center policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. 




  • The work consists of varied volunteer coordination duties.  Strict deadlines contribute to the complexity of the position.


  • The purpose of this position is to coordinate volunteer efforts for the Children's Center. Success in this position results in efficient and effective volunteerism within agency programs and services and ensures sufficient in-kind funding for programs.




  • The purpose is to plan, coordinate, or advise on work efforts or to resolve operating problems by influencing or motivating individuals or groups who are working toward mutual goals and who have basically cooperative attitudes.




    •  This position has no direct staff supervisory responsibilities, but does supervise the entire volunteer force.



Job Qualifications:


  • The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting, standing or stooping, The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects and distinguishes between shades of color.


  • This job operates in a professional office environment, off site venues and outside event areas in various weather conditions.


  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.






  • Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field. (Bachelor's Degree)


  • Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for three to five years.


  • Possession of or ability to readily obtain a valid driver's license for the type of vehicle or equipment used.
